After many years' experience in the human resource/business environment in both government and private sectors (and joining the ranks of senior citizens), I decided it was time to put my people skills to work in something I am passionate about—providing help to seniors.
In my own personal life, I have had the pleasure of caring for elderly parents and serving as a guardian for my disabled sisters. There are things I've learned from this experience—seniors do need help, especially if there is no support group. My brother and I placed our parents in an independent retirement home after they could no longer live alone without additional resources. Those who opt for independent living as opposed to assisted living still need someone to advocate for them, help them with the small things, help them manage around their living quarters, do shopping for them, provide companionship. Those in assisted living have some of the same needs.
Caring for seniors can be time consuming and quite frustrating from time to time, but as we all know, they need our love and support. Some family members live away and cannot provide the support; others may feel they are not available to provide additional support. That is where we come in.
